Cove reserves will take heart from this game; they out played a very strong Lammas reserve side tonight and should have won.

Tues 28 Aug 07 - Cove Res 4 Worcester Park Res 1 (Prem Reserve Div)

Cove Reserves took control and their chances, after some early wobbles to win comfortably against Worcester Park Res.

Park had the better of the opening 20 minutes but a combination of poor finishing and brave defending ensured that Cove stayed in this game. The deadlock was eventually broken on 30 minutes when after some great work by Danny Turner on the right, Turner picked out Rob Goldney who blasted home the first goal in this game. (1-0) 30 mins.

Turner then doubled Cove’s lead on 38 minutes with a spectacular finish; Turner twisted and turned on the edge of the area as he evaded several challenges and crashed in an unstoppable shot. (2-0) 38th min. Cove went close to adding to their two goals when Lee Taylor missed what looked to be an open goal as his shot went wide.

The visitors did pull one back just after the break but their hopes of grabbing a point were extinguished with a quarter of an hour remaining. Goldney grabbed his second goal of the game after he latched on to a trough ball and held off the challenges of two defenders before firing home. (3-1) 75th min

Youth team player Alex Champion then capped off an impressive display with a well-taken goal on 80 minutes. Champion found himself unmarked 8 yards out and fired a low shot back across the face of the goal into the bottom corner of the Park goal. (4-1) 80th min. Lee Taylor was guilty of spurning some great opportunities to add to the four goals the home side did score.

There were a number of players playing their first games after their return from holidays, and injuries.

Kristian Webb covered nearly every inch of the pitch with a tireless performance, Danny Turner’s goal well deserved after he worked hard upfront and was a thorn in the side of Parks side all-night, Rob Goldney scored twice and was untouchable playing on the leftwing. James Reeves looked solid at the heart of Cove’s defence as he dealt with the Park forwards with ease.

Thur 23 Aug 07 - Frimley Green Res 2 Cove Res 1 (Prem Reserve Div)

Frimley Green Res took the spoils in this midweek fixture; Frimley edged the scoring as both sides had their fair share of possession in this game.

Cove put in a workmanlike display but were missing the thrust in the final third as they unduly bothered the Green goalkeeper.

The home side looked the livelier of the two teams and got their reward when they scored two goals that sealed the points for Frimley.

Tom Bennet scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for the visitors.

Sat 18 Aug 07 - Cove Reserves 1 Bedfont Green Reserves 3

Cove Reserves went into this fixture knowing it was going to be a tough test against a well-experienced Bedfont Green Reserve side. Cove's young and inexperienced reserve players found it hard going against a well-organised Bedfont Green team and struggled to get to grips with the pace and tempo the opposition were playing at.

Green raced into a two-goal lead in the first half and maybe could and should have scored more goals, wasting a hatful of clear-cut chances.

Half Time Score Cove Res 0 vs. 2 Bedfont Green Res

The second half saw Cove battle and work harder to match the tempo and pace of the Green players and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal.

A speculative long-range shot by James Reeves caught the Green keeper unaware as the keeper struggled to get across to the ball and could only help the ball into his own net. Green killed off any chance of Cove making a comeback in this game when they added a third goal with only minutes to go.

Final Score Cove Res 1 vs. 3 Bedfont Green Res

With all the changes at the club and the number of new squad players it was very encouraging to see all the new young players starting to develop and as the season goes on they will gain experience.

Thurs 16 Aug 07 - Hartley Wintney Reserves 1 Cove FC Reserves 2

Cove FC Reserves got their league season under way with a tricky away fixture against Hartley Wintney Reserves. This season has seen the amalgamation of the old Premier Reserve League with the old Division One Reserve league making for a tough and long season.

Cove’s new reserve management team of manager Simon Neal and asst manager Gerry Marialo bring bags of experience and are both very keen to help with the development of the younger players.

Hartley Wintney was the brighter of the two teams in the first half as the new look Cove team were slow to find their feet. The home team score the first goal of this game with a well-worked move that resulted in a simple finish for the Wintney forward. (1-0)

Still the young players of Cove started to settle down as the game went on and were starting to pass the ball around and impose them selves on the game as the half-time whistle went.

Half Time Score Hartley Wintney 1 vs. 0 Cove FC

The second half saw the visitors pick up from the way they ended the first half by controlling the pace of the game, as they looked more relaxed and composed on the ball. Charlie Mason and Lee Taylor started to cause problems to the Wintney’s defence with their movement on and off the ball. Lee Taylor, starting his first game since picking up an injury during a pre-season friendly, equalized for Cove with an unstoppable thunderbolt. (1 – 1)

James Reeves, another player playing his first start since an injury he picked up in a pre-season friendly, marshalled the defence of Cove in the second half as the home side failed to trouble the visitors' goal. Taylor hit his second goal and what turned out to be the winner when he tapped home from six yards with 15 minutes to go. (1 – 2).

Final Score Hartley Wintney 1 vs. 2 Cove FC

This was a positive start for the Reserves considering all the new young players at the club, there were a number of great performances tonight, none more so then Ross Ingram.

Good luck for the rest of the season.
